Elmer Knizner Three gifts were instrumental in launching Elmer Knizner's painting career. The first, a set of oil paints, was given to him in '57 while serving in the Phillippine Islands. Success with his first five or six paintings created a desire to pursue it further when he returned home. However, work and family took precedence for the next three decades.

Elmer did not become active in the arts until he retired from his job as supervisor at the Westinghouse semiconductor plant in 1990, at which time he was presented with a gift of watercolors.

His third gift, that of natural ability, came to blossom after beginner's classes at the Greensburg Art Club. He has never stopped painting since, fervently studying and seeking out workshops.

A life-long resident of Youngwood, Mr. Knizner is a member of several art groups and is a board member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society. He has won awards in many group and juried exhibits throughout Pennsylvania and has begun teaching classes locally.
